A TRUE BIKER RIGHTS STORY: HONOR

In 2013, while working on building the AMERICAN BIKER CULTURE CENTER, I was being commissioned to ghost write a book on Mike Tyson for two ex-advisors of Mike and a publisher DIRECTLY related to the National President of the Outlaws MC.

MikeTyson

I was nationally known as a solid writer, editor and documentary producer which is how this group essentially found me and chose me to work on what they called “a very difficult book”. The American Biker Culture Center and Law Library , the first of its kind, was also getting national and worldwide recognition.

I sought council with then Highwaymen MC NY President, Steve “The Boss” Maley.
At first we were excited cause this was a big payday for me. I finally could rise out of the dregs of life…Being an ex-boxer and raised similar as to Mike, as well as having personally met him and worked with other boxers like Jerry Cooney and Larry Holmes in past projects that helped injured fighters like F.I.S.T.
My concerns were that as I represented B.A.D. – Bikers Against Discrimination, I could not allow any negative influence to surface from any club which opposed any other clubs here in NYS. I was assured that my position would be respected…Then I had the concern that anything written ABOUT MIKE could not assassinate him or his character and reputation. I could not cut his throat.
So, I made two moves after talking with Steve…

1. Arranged phone conference with the parties writing the story with me,
2. That Steve Maley would be able to attend our meeting in Michigan as an escort….

During the extensive phone conference with the parties who once worked for Mike, I was assured there would be no grave negativity about Mike in the book. Still, I had an inkling something was wrong when I heard some of their personal difficulties with Mike and why he fired or released them from his camp.

WE STILL AGREED TO GO TO MICHIGAN, MEET WITH EVERYONE, GET THE OUTLINE FOR THE BOOK, ARRANGE HOW WE WOULD FORMULATE IT VIA LONG DISTANCE AND RECEIVE THE FIRST DOWN PAYMENT – $5000 in cash.
We would also be housed and fed by them and the meeting would take a couple days. Everyone agreed…
My inkling was right… I received a phone call days later from the publisher who stated that Steve could not attend the meeting or be my escort. It could cause problems for her later on and it is not necessary even though we all agreed initially.
I questioned the fact the publisher assured me she was NOT involved in the disturbances between clubs in the U.S. and that she gave her word my position as a rights advocate for bikers would be respected. As well, she sold the whole idea based upon the fact she was doing other kinds of publishing and not “biker” books anymore.
SHE GAVE HER WORD THIS WAS ALL TRUE AND NOW SHE IS FLIPPING THE SCRIPT THINKING I WOULD BE GREEDY, GO FOR THE MONEY AND FAME WITH THE BOOK…She got snotty and demanding with me on the phone…I HAD TO MAKE A DECISION RIGHT THERE AND THEN AND THEY WOULD ARRANGE FOR ME A PLANE TICKET.
Steve, working on his jewelry repair stopped and started rushing to my office door as he heard me yelling : “I dont know who you think you are or what you represent but one thing for certain, you cannot keep your word and honor is everything. If Steve, the (then) President of the Highwaymen MC NY, was NOT WELCOME then I am not welcome. YOU CAN SHOVE YOUR CONTRACT UP YOUR ASS, BITCH…YOU ARE GRIMEY … ” and I hung up the phone…

…In exchange for HONOR, TRUTH and BROTHERHOOD…

Steve encouraged me to call her back and recant, apologize and do the project…Not to be so stubborn about honor. I mean, I am not in any club, I just fight for the rights of the biker culture…But, I could not. I knew the brother FELT the discrimination just as I did…and I knew that you may have NOTHING AT ALL IN LIFE that is worth more than your honor. I appreciated the fact the brother was sacrificing his participation in sacrifice for my success…
I went back to the office and began planning new video interviews, new radio shows and new battles that would enhance the American Biker Culture.
